Michigan Won On A Hail Mary Yet Got Dropped From Top 25
The Wolverines beat Western Michigan 13-12 but voters are confused by the final play.

The air still held the excitement from a night at the Big House in Ann Arbor. Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood and receiver Chris Bracy were in the middle of a conversation after the game. The Wolverines had won the matchup against Western Michigan. It was a hard fought battle that ended with a final score of 13 to 12. However the way the game ended has everyone scratching their heads looking at the game tape. This is the kind of drama that makes college football worth watching even when the mud is deep.
It started with a weird moment on the clock. The horn had sounded and everyone thought the game was over. Then officials put one second back on the clock. It was a second that changed everything. Bryce Underwood launched the ball high into the air looking for a miracle. The Broncos were the underdogs down by four touchdowns but they had a chance to pull off the upset.
That is when JJ Buchanan came down with Bryce Underwood’s second Hail Mary pass. It turned what looked like a 12 to 7 upset victory into a heartbreaking 13 to 12 loss for the Broncos. The Mid American Conference did not take the loss sitting down. They submitted appeals to the NCAA and the College Football Playoff administration. They want the record to show the Broncos actually won the game for purposes of rankings and evaluation.
The request was denied by the NCAA because their rules do not allow for a move like that. The CFP also plans to wait until November to release the first rankings. Top 25 voters have already made up their minds though. They saw the controversy and they voted with their pens. The Wolverines dropped from the number 16 spot in the preseason poll to being completely out of the Top 25 altogether in the latest rankings.
