Seattle Tragedy: Fall from Overpass or Hit by Car? WSP Seeks Answers
Troopers investigate mysterious death near Seneca Street along the downtown I-5 corridor.

The I-5 corridor acts as the restless spine of the Pacific Northwest a dusty artery that connects the coastal rain to the inland valleys. For decades this road has witnessed the constant ebb and flow of migration and commerce yet on a Sunday afternoon in late August 2026 the rhythm of this major highway was disturbed by a somber discovery near downtown Seattle. The Washington State Patrol arrived at the grassy area adjacent to the express lanes near the Seneca Street entrance. This location represents a crucial intersection of transit and fate.
Troopers responding to a 911 call found a subject lying motionless in a grassy embankment. The initial report from a citizen suggested the individual might simply be sleeping. Upon arrival however the subject was not conscious and had no pulse. CPR was initiated but sadly it was determined the person was already deceased. The Medical Examiner has since ruled that death occurred due to a fall from the overpass. However WSP officials note it is possible the person was also hit by a vehicle after the fall adding a layer of complexity to this tragic event.
The investigation into this downtown Seattle incident requires more than just the facts on the concrete. WSP detectives are actively seeking anyone who may have witnessed something in the area between August 22 and August 23. This span of time is vital for piecing together the moments leading up to the discovery. Anyone with information can reach out by email to WSP Detective John Ford at John.Ford@wsp.wa.gov.
