Stagecoach CHAOS as star-studded festival with Sydney Sweeney and Lainey Wilson is nearly derailed by 'emergency evacuation'
High desert winds forced an emergency evacuation at Stagecoach just before Lainey Wilson's headline set, exposing how fragile even star-packed desert festivals remain despite their polished image.

Strong winds at the Empire Polo Club in Indio turned Saturday night at Stagecoach into a scramble. Festivalgoers watched red letters flash 'EMERGENCY EVACUATION' across screens, followed by the blunt order to 'move quickly and calmly to the nearest exit' before Lainey Wilson's set.
Organizers cleared the grounds after one week of Coachella's departure from the same site. Within an hour, with crowds already thinning, the festival reversed course on X and Instagram: 'The show will resume. We are working to open doors and prep the site for your safety.' Wilson, 33, later posted that her performance had been pushed to 10:30 p.m., adding, 'These crazy winds ain’t gonna stop us.'
The disruption undercut the carefully curated glamour. Sydney Sweeney, 28, had just joined Diplo, 47, onstage in his air-conditioned HonkyTonk tent, perched on the shoulders of boyfriend Scooter Braun, 44. The bill also featured Riley Green, Journey, Little Big Town, Gavin Adcock and Teddy Swims, part of a weekend headlined by Cody Johnson on Friday and Post Malone on Sunday.
Wilson, headlining Stagecoach for the first time after appearances in 2022 and 2023, had teased pyro effects and special guests on John Mayer's SiriusXM show days earlier. She promised fans 'a different experience.' The wind showed how little control even experienced promoters have once the desert decides otherwise.
Legacy names like Wynonna Judd, Counting Crows and Lyle Lovett shared stages with newer acts including Noah Cyrus and Bailey Zimmerman. Guy Fieri ran his Stagecoach Smokehouse with live cooking demos featuring Judd and Gavin Rossdale, while Diplo, Pitbull and Ludacris handled late-night Mustang sets. None of that preparation could override the weather.
The brief evacuation laid bare the gap between the celebrity sheen, Sweeney and all, and the raw vulnerability of outdoor events in the high desert. Winds derailed the schedule in minutes; the question now is whether future festivals will admit how often nature holds the final say.
