34-Year-Old Seattle Man Charged with Plans to Attack Governor Bob Ferguson
Prosecutors reveal a hospital-based plot involving public transit and grievance over Spokane incarceration.

It is August 2026 in the Pacific Northwest and while most of Seattle is debating where to buy the next avocado toast, a 34-year-old man named Nathaniel David Foster was busy plotting a visit to Olympia. Foster has been charged with threatening to kill Washington Governor Bob Ferguson after authorities say he described detailed plans to travel to the state capital. The case was first reported by katu.com.
The narrative, contained in charging documents, reads like a thriller but comes courtesy of a man who checked into Swedish First Hill hospital. Foster reportedly checked in reporting suicidal and homicidal thoughts. A hospital caseworker allegedly heard him say he intended to use public transit to reach the governor's mansion. Foster did not just want to show up; he wanted to study security. Prosecutors say he described watching guard shifts and looking for weaknesses in the mansion's defenses so he could force his way inside. He also allegedly said he would attack and kill staff if the security was too tight.
The motive, as often happens in these cases, seems rooted in grievances. The probable-cause statement links Foster’s alleged threats to his treatment while incarcerated in Spokane. He repeated similar threats to the hospital caseworker, Seattle police and the Washington State Patrol detectives who eventually interviewed him. It is a saga of missed appointments and bureaucratic friction. The case was filed on August 3 but Foster failed to appear at an August 17 arraignment. This oversight led to a bench warrant being issued.
When he was finally arrested on August 25, it was for a separate investigation, yet the connection to Ferguson remains. Court records show a history of violent offenses. There was a 2025 Olympia arrest involving an alleged stabbing. That stabbing case was interestingly dismissed after Foster was found not competent to stand trial. Now, prosecutors want $50000 bail and no contact with the governor. It is a reminder that the gap between progressive policy and personal safety in the region is wider than the distance between Seattle and Olympia.
