Redondo Beach Pier evacuated due to ‘suspicious circumstance’
Redondo Beach Pier cleared and streets shut down over an undisclosed "suspicious circumstance" just as the BeachLife Festival's final acts were set to perform.

Redondo Beach authorities evacuated the pier and closed nearby streets Sunday morning after Long Beach police, including the watch commander, rushed every available officer to a still-unexplained "suspicious circumstance."
The Redondo Beach Police Department issued the order just after 11 a.m., telling anyone near the pier to "evacuate safely" and stay away "until further notice." Catalina Avenue was also shut between Torrance Boulevard and Beryl Street. No injuries or arrests have been reported, and officials have released no details on what triggered the response.
The timing is awkward. The evacuation hit as the nearby BeachLife Festival prepared to close its final day with performances from Sheryl Crow and James Taylor. Whether the shows went on as planned remains unknown; organizers have not commented.
Long Beach Police told the California Post that the full department mobilization was in response to the same vague incident. The lack of transparency is striking: a major tourist pier and a large music event disrupted, yet the public is told nothing beyond "police activity" and "suspicious circumstance."
This is not the first time Southern California has seen heavy-handed official reactions followed by radio silence. When every officer is dispatched and streets are cordoned but no threat is named, residents and visitors are left to guess whether they witnessed prudent caution or bureaucratic overreach dressed up as urgency.
The real test will be whether authorities ever explain what justified pulling every cop in Long Beach and emptying a pier on a sunny festival Sunday, or if the story simply fades once the crowds are allowed back.
